Self-centering rods

The PFSC is the first building in the United States to include a rocking wall system. The building’s shear walls are connected to a concrete footing utilizing post-tensioned, self-centering rods running through the CLT wall. The rods allow the wall to rock laterally during an earthquake and snap back into its original upright position afterwards. This resilient design option meets earthquake safety standards with the goal of minimizing structural building damage from an earthquake.
